David Gibbons

David attended Moseley School of Art, in Birmingham from 1947 - 1950 and Birmingham college of Art, from 1950 - 1952. He then attended for a further four years part-time whilst completing an apprenticeship with a progressive printing company. After completing his apprenticeship he continued with the company for a number of years. David then decided to move his career in a new direction and moved into youth and community work which he continued in until 1990 when he was pleased to accept early retirement and with this the chance to move to the Derbyshire Dales and return to painting.

David uses a variety of media in his art including watercolour,oil and acrylic and covers a wide range of subject matter. He is presently using a unique "marbling" technique that he has developed over the last few years in a number of his paintings.

A Note From David

I want every painting to be fresh and  different and I welcome the challenges of new techniques and new subjects in the hope that this will save me from becoming formulaic and adopting a painting by numbers approach. That said I believe my strengths are in traditional draughtsmanship and perspective and I think this shows through in my work and can be traced beneath a diversity of styles and treatments. With retirement comes the freedom to please myself about the commissions and work I do ensuring that anything I do has my 100% commitment.
